Catchup + Hawkeye Episode 6

hi guys, rammo here :)

Welcome to our very first blog post! Oh and the website for that matter. It’s still very much under construction, but we’ll slowly start making more and more things available on here for you guys. I just wanted to touch in real quick and give you a rundown of how these posts might work. Obviously hello hello is a joint operation between both Jenz and I. These blog posts wont really be like the breakdowns we do in our weekly podcast episodes, where we bounce off one another and sort of get each others feelings and reactions to certain things. What we’ll use these for is more of a bit more of an in-depth look at each of our thoughts, in a more individual way (if that makes sense?). Anyways, hopefully thats enough of a breakdown for you guys, hope you enjoy the content!

I think Hawkeye is without a doubt my favourite Disney+ show of the year. Don’t get me wrong, WandaVision was great; but Hawkeye just felt so… down to earth? It was also quite refreshing to learn more about Clint and his family, in a similar way to how we learnt about Natasha and her family in Black Widow. Enough warm up though, lets get to the point.

To start us off lets talk about that huge conclusion. No I’m not talking about Wilson Fisks return, or Echo immediately “killing” him off. I’m also not talking about Yelena forgiving Clint for letting Natasha sacrifice herself on Vormir. No no, I’m talking about how they have somehow have two instances of Mockingbird in the MCU now? Laura Barton (Clints wife) was revealed at the end of the episode as being the owner of the mysterious Rolex watch that was being fought over throughout the show. One interesting thing about this watch though was that the number #19 was engraved on the back of it. Now, canonically speaking, Agent 19 in S.H.I.E.L.D lore is directly linked to the character Mockingbird, a.k.a Bobbi Morse. The tricky thing is, Bobbi Morse has already been introduced in the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D TV show. Now this show was quite popular in its starting seasons, but as it went on its viewer base started dropping until they had their final season in 2020. This was also the same show that re-introduced Phil Coulson to fans after his untimely death in 2012’s Avengers.

Now, here is where it gets tricky. Phil Coulson was already introduced to the mainline MCU, before being killed off. He was then re-introduced in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, which logically thinking would make this TV show canon to the MCU. However, Marvel Studios have never really referenced the events of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D in any other forms of media, other than the show itself. Now, if we consider Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D canon to the MCU, this would also mean that there is already an instance of the Mockingbird character running around. Another interesting point is that in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Bobbi Morse’s character is never actually referenced or called Mockingbird, so I’m assuming this is where they can get away with making another character take on the mantle of the Mockingbird first.

Now one could say that because of the events of both Avengers Endgame and Loki (and I guess Spider-Man: No Way Home), the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D timeline could have been happening in a different multiverse. And I’m guessing this is also a leg that Marvel Studios can stand on to sort of make the whole thing make “sense”.

Alright thats enough dribbling on about canonical issues. The finale to Hawkeye was a great ball of fun, it was the perfect lead up to the holiday time, especially with Clint technically becoming a Christmas ornament himself. We got to see more trick arrows, more Yelena, and FINALLY, more Wilson Fisk. But this version of Fisk seems a bit different. He seems bigger, stronger, and more festive (below)

the MCU version of Wilson Fisk seems very festive

front cover of Amazing Spider-Man: Family Business Vol 1 (Waid, Robinson, Dell'Edera and Dell'Otto, 2014)

I’ve seen a couple of people online who are quite confused at this version of Fisk, and for a fair enough reason I think. He does seem quite different from the version we saw in Netflix’s Daredevil show, but the current version of him seems A LOT more comic accurate. I quite enjoy this version of him, but I am DEFINATELY keen to see more of him (especially in the newly announced Echo show that is coming to Disney+).

But alright, I think that’s enough from me; overall I really enjoyed this episode, and the season as a whole. I really do hope they are planning to do more with Clints character, Kate, and now even Mockingbird 👀 I’m going to let jenz have a few words before wrapping up the first post :)

jenz:

So, let’s chat about that final episode shall we! Look, WandaVision has a soft spot in my heart and I think it always will but the Hawkeye series has definitely been an enjoyable one, honestly mostly because of Yelena. So when she started appearing on the show, I was ECSTATIC.

The finale did well to cover all the strings they opened up throughout the series and my most memorable moment of the finale was the confrontation Yelena had with Hawkeye with regards to her sister. That was such an emotional moment and I thought they did it so well to not only show Yelena’s emotions of pain, conflict and hurt to Hawkeye’s emotion of regret, sorrow and guilt. So that moment of resolution was definitely a highlight of the episode.

This may be controversial but I still don’t care too much for Kate and her storyline but I think she may be returning to the MCU at a later date possibly :/ I did however love the lift scene and the fight scene that Kate had with Yelena and the conversation surrounding it. I thought that was well done and they do have some interesting chemistry between each other. Overall, having the conclusion of how much Fisk was behind the storyline throughout Hawkeye was rewarding but yea, I have only been watching the Hawkeye series mostly for Yelena haha, I have even started to try and take in a Russian accent because of her. That’s all I really have to say! Go Yelena! (Please more Yelena Marvel).

and because Rammo added pictures, I’m going to add pictures.
