Just a quick catch-up

Hello hello guys! How have you all been? Oh nice, thats good to hear. Sorry for the lack of podcasts the past couple of weeks, but I [raammo] have been absolutely flat out with work, and just haven’t had the time to sit down and pop out a recording and edit it all. But I’ve got the time this evening to write up a lil blog post for you guys, with some of the latest news from the week that was.

Starting us off with the juicy stuff, the fine folks over at Santa Monica Studios finally hit us with the release date for God of War: Ragnarok, which is coming out November 9th for both PS5 and PS4. Alongside this they also released a slick new cinematic trailer, along with a couple of extra bonus editions for the game as well (which you can see in the videos below). God of War: Ragnarok should include 110% more BOI, which is always a good thing.

Next up for the week was quite a surprise. Do you remember that Ubisoft pirate game that feels like it was announced like, 5 years ago? Well, that’s cause it was. Skull and Bones was first announced waaaay back at E3 2017, and looked to be a copy and paste of all the ship sailing and combat that we got in Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag. And since then, we haven’t really heard all that much, as Ubisoft have been slowly working away at making their ideal pirate experience. But Ubi have finally returned and they actually have something to announce this time. Skull and Bones will be finally releasing on November 8th (wow right before GoW), and will be launching on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Whats interesting about this, is that it looks very different to what we first got back in 2017. It now looks like its taking quite a bit of inspiration from Rare and their Sea of Thieves game, as there looks to be less of a focus on raw ship v ship combat and more of a focus on exploration and survival. If you have the time, Ubi did release a whole hour long video detailing all the work they’ve been putting into the game, which you can see below:

In some more fun news, EA got roasted earlier in the week when they seemed to let the interns have a go on their Twitter account. The Tweet “when they’re a 10 but play single player games” was posted, gamers were quick to jump on and point out that EA have in fact made an abundance of single player games in the past, and a lot of them are actually some of their most well received games in recent years, like the recent Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order. Funnily enough, Respawn Entertainment chief Vince Zampella, who is currently working on the upcoming EA published Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, reacted to the post with a face palm emoji. A couple of hours later, EA threw in the towel and had to go back on their previous statement. “Roast well deserved,” they wrote. “We’ll take this L cause playing single player games actually makes them an 11.”.

To wrap up the quick catch up for the week, I’ll end with the sad news that the “INZONE” name branding is sticking around it seems. Sony has officially announced the INZONE gaming line-up, and its a bit more interesting than we first thought. We’ll start off with the headphones, and they’re exactly like what was leaked a couple of weeks ago. There are three different headsets that gamers can choose between, each with their own perks.

  • The INZONE H3 which is the entry level headset, is a stock standard wired gaming headset. It has a mic attached to the headset which you can flick up or down depending on if you’re using it or not, and boasts a “personalized sound for PC” tag as well. Which, strangely enough, they all do.

  • The INZONE H7 is the mid tier headset, is exactly the same as the INZONE H3, just wireless. The H7 has a 40 hour battery life, which is fairly decent for a wireless headset.

  • The INZONE H9 is Sony’s highest end model, and is again very similar to the previous H7, but this time comes with Digital Noise Cancellation. The H9 boasts a 32 hour battery life without the Noise Cancellation on, and a 20 hour battery life with it on.

Sony also announced the INZONE M9 which is their foray into the gaming monitor industry. The INZONE M9 is a 4k, 144hz, HDR compatible gaming monitor, and also supports Nvidia G-SYNC. Strangely enough, in a very similar sense to the headset line-up, this monitor seems to be targeted mainly towards PC gamers rather than PS5 gamers. Whilst all of these devices can of course be used with a PS5, all of the advertising and branding makes it seem like they were developed with PC gaming in mind. Now this could just be because Sony wants to try and get their foot in the door with PC gamers, after Microsoft has already been doing that for years, and more recently with Xbox Game Pass for PC, or, it could just be that with all of the PlayStation exclusives slowly making their way to PC, Sony has realised that they can potentially capitalise on PlayStation fans wanting to play the PS exclusive games on whatever Sony equipment they can get their hands on. Whatever reason being, its all just a bit strange to me.

Well, thats going to be it from us this week! Hopefully we’ll be back with an actual podcast for you guys next week sometime, and until then, goodbye!
