This week in gaming 21/9/22

Well hello hello there fellow internet dweller! What brings you to these parts? Oh, you’re here for gaming news? Well aren’t you in the right spot. Lets get this show on the road:

EA unveils a brand new Iron Man game:

Now for some reason this wasn’t announced during the D23 Disney & Marvel videogames showcase, but we’ll take it none the less! Being developed by Motive Studio (Star Wars Battlefront II, Star Wars: Squadrons, Dead Space (2023)), alongside Marvel Games is the single player, third-person action adventure game all us Marvel fans have been waiting for: Iron Man’s very own game (other than those movie tie in ones which we don’t really talk about). The games development is being led by executive producer Oliver Proulx, who you might know as having previously worked on the recent Guardians of the Galaxy game over at Edios Montreal (which I might add is a really fun game).

“We are thrilled to collaborate with the talented team at Motive Studio to bring their original vision of one of Marvel’s most important, powerful and beloved characters”, said Marvel Games vice president and creative director Bill Roseman

EA have also come out to say that this upcoming Iron Man game is one of “several new games” that are being developed for Marvel Games, which is a very exciting premise. There is very little news on this title, as Motive Studio are still in very early pre-production, meaning anything like a trailer or release date are still a good while away. I would expect some more news sometime next year, possibly at the next D23 event.

HUGE GTA: VI LEAKS:

Now we’re not going to be linking any of the videos or screenshots or anything like that, because the Rockstar and Take Two Interactive’s legal teams have been working overtime to be able to make sure they’re scrubbing the internet of any and all traces of these leaks.

But in case you have been living under a rock this past week, Rockstar Games was recently hacked by a mysterious individual going by the name “teapotuberhacker” (interesting name I guess), who managed to gain access to the internal Rockstar servers where information regarding both GTA: V and GTA: VI were being stored. The hacker claims to have gotten away with “GTA:V and GTA:VI source code and assets”, alongside early development footage for the upcoming and hotly anticipated GTA:VI. Once news of this hit the internet it spread like wildfire, and Rockstar was forced to make a statement:

"We recently suffered a network intrusion in which an unauthorised third party illegally accessed and downloaded confidential information from our systems, including early development footage for the next Grand Theft Auto. At this time, we do not anticipate any disruption to our live game services nor any long-term effect on the development of our ongoing projects. We are extremely disappointed to have any details of our next game shared with you all in this way. Our work on the next Grand Theft Auto game will continue as planned and we remain as committed as ever to delivering an experience to you, our players, that truly exceeds your expectations. We will update everyone again soon and, of course, will properly introduce you to this next game when it is ready. We want to thank everyone for their ongoing support through this situation.”

Now, Rockstar claims that this data breach won’t impact its ongoing development for the upcoming Grand Theft Auto game, but what is quite concerning is the reported access to the GTA:V source code. If this is true, this source code could be used to create hacks and exploits for GTA Online, which could render the game unplayable if players have access to these higher level exploits. This is all theoretical at this stage, but it would be a massive loss to both Rockstar and Take Two Interactive if their crown jewel of a money printing machine was to be impacted in such a way. Time will tell about the outcome of this all, and we are patiently awaiting official news on GTA:VI.

New PS5 model is reportedly coming next year:

We’ll end it on a weird one for you all…

Notorious leaker Tom Henderson is back at it again, and this time is reporting that there is a new PS5 model on the way, and its a real strange one. Henderson reports that Sony is planning to release a new PS5 model next year, codenamed the “D-chassis” (enough with the giggles), which follows the recent C-chassis that was released just last month (which was basically just a lighter PS5 Disc Edition). This “D-chassis” though will be internally identical to the current PS5 that is on the market, except for the fact that… it will be built with an external disc drive in mind?

Yeah, thats right. The bright minds over at Sony have “developed” a PS5 that will ship without a disc drive (and apparently in a bundle with the external disc drive), and if you wanted you can also buy the external disc drive on its own. Its reported that this disc drive will attach to the PS5 via a USB-C port, and will apparently look just like the current PS5 Disc Edition, but slightly slimmer. At the moment we’re not sure if the external disc drive can be used on other PS5 models, like the Digital Edition which ships with absolutely no disc drive. But its pretty safe to say that if the rumours are true, you should be able to use the external disc drive with the Digital Edition PS5, as it connects via a simple USB-C. I still don’t think I understand the reasoning for this model, but we’ll just have to wait and see if it actually comes out.
